General Usage
- Security Time-out
- For your security Tax Notebook automatically requires users to log in again after 20 minutes of inactivity
- Page Loading Issues
- Every page in Tax Notebook is saved when you navigate from one page to the next within Tax Notebook. Make sure each page has fully loaded before continuing to enter your tax data. The completion of the loading process is indicated by the word "Done" in the bottom left corner of your browser window
- Printing Issues
- The printable version of your return appears in a pop-up window. Pop-up blockers must be disabled in order to print your return
When using an Adobe® Acrobat® product that displays PDF files on a Macintosh, your Acrobat window may display behind the browser window
- Common Error Messages
- When moving from page to page or attempting to print, you may encounter the following error messages:
- "This page contains both secure and nonsecure items. Do you want to display the nonsecure items?"
- The web site is secure in spite of the error message displayed by the browser; you may click Yes to continue
- Suggested Resolution: Installing Internet Explorer 5.5 with Service Pack 2 or later should resolve this issue for IE users. You may obtain the latest Service Packs from the download section on Microsoft's home page
- "Error Locating Object Handler"
- This is an error caused by the manner in which Internet Explorer interacts with the Adobe Acrobat Reader plugin. Before trying any of these solutions you must close your browser:
- Make sure you have the latest versions of Adobe® Acrobat® Reader® and Microsoft® Internet Explorer®
- If your problem still exists, you can copy two files, pdf.ocx and pdf.tlb, from your Adobe\Acrobat X.X\Reader\ActiveX directory (where X.X is your version of Reader) to your Internet Explorer plugins directory (usually C:\Programs Files\Internet Explorer\Plugins). If you have difficulty finding these files or directories, use the Windows Search or Find feature in your Start menu
- Another possible solution: With Internet Explorer closed, open Adobe Acrobat Reader in your Start menu. In the Edit menu choose Preferences and select Options. Uncheck the option "Display PDF in Browser." This solution has the side effect of displaying your return in a stand-alone Acrobat Reader window. Occasionally, after viewing your return once with this setting, you can then return Acrobat Reader's Preferences to their previous setting and Acrobat Reader will work properly thereafter
- As a final option, return to the File menu in Acrobat Reader. After selecting Preferences and General as above, select Options and uncheck the option Open Cross-doc Links in Same Window. This solution will remove the index in your PDF file; you will then have to use page-up and page-down to view all the pages of your return
